What A Gentle Power...

What a gentle power is transformation!
Our teacher embodies the principle,
patience = love.
We know and he showed us how his heart's wisdom
allowed for something in our being
to take years to transform.

Desire And Longing...

Desire and longing
can be so much stronger than our BEING at times,
but just that friction between what we seek
and what we can DO,
can be the fire that we need
to keep us moving ahead, I think.
I saw a friend last night
who often is in a dark place,
despite her strong magnetic center
and gorgeous creative energy.
The last time I had been with her,
despite my intention to help lift her energy,
I had instead
been dragged down into lower worlds.
It was such a classic example
of the lower consuming the higher.
It was daunting to have experienced this,
but it helped me going into our dinner last night.
But this time,
I kept it simple.
Instead of thinking I would "help her out,"
I instead just focused on keeping my own energy high,
and the entire triad changed.
She actually "saw" that energy
and was drawn to it.
She described it and was able to use it.
She was able to transform her OWN state.
And I learned a powerful lesson about humility,
and also the preciousness of our internal energies.
So often I think I can DO,
when in actuality the lesson is just to BE.

Ordinarily Impressions ...

Ordinarily impressions
are received in a mechanical way.
They are received by our personality,
which reacts with automatic thoughts and feelings
that depend on its conditioning.
We do not assimilate impressions
because personality itself cannot be alive—
it is dead.
In order to be assimilated and transformed,
impressions have to be received by essence.
This requires a conscious effort
at the moment of the impression.
And it requires a definite feeling,
a feeling of love for being,
for being present.
We must respond to impressions
no longer from the vantage point of personality
but from love for being present.
This will transform our whole way of thinking and feeling.

Mervyn Said...

Evelyn De Morgan

Mervyn said,
for the soul to be pierced by an impression,
the impression must go right from Do to Do.
So in order to stand in front of and be pierced by it,
first the mi-fa interval must be surpassed
by dividing our attention
and then we go through so la to the si do interval.
He said there is only one thing
that can surpass those intervals
to pierce our souls
and that is love.

We Must Continue...

We must continue to do the Work
because there is no alternative
to find and serve God.
As you know,
it is at times very difficult,
but we have hope;
this hope that ultimately gives us the will to continue.
This is what we need on this trail
that at times is full of tears,
at times is a lonely way that,
but if we can bring one soul,
one student,
one step closer to the light of God,
all this loneliness and perhaps grief is justified.

When Life Itself Seems Lunatic...

Yoel Sevi

"When life itself seems lunatic,
who knows where madness lies?
Perhaps to be too practical is madness.
To surrender dreams - this may be madness.
Too much sanity may be madness -
and the maddest of all:
to see life as it is,
and not as it should be!"

As The World...

Charles William Mitchell

As the world faces these dark times of destruction,
I am reminded of the caterpillar,
living its life through so many stages,
finally ready to hang upside down
and be utterly reduced to nothing
but imaginal cells (goo).
Faith in the six processes
that crime must occur before healing
and perhaps the great gift of regeneration
is that we humbling our vessel
to allow the Gods to reduce us to nothing
so that we may be remade?
Rodney speaks of this often.
I experience it again and again,
the false being stripped away,
being laid bare,
and then rebuilding with worn out tools.
So thankful for this gift of being human,
with a Soul.

A Student Shared Something ...

Amy Gibson

A student shared something
 at a meeting.
She was thinking of how
when the caterpillar
has hibernated into the chrysalis,
it must be uncomfortable!
That went right into me.
Yes, it IS uncomfortable.
To just be and do the INNER work.
Often I'm not sure of what this entails.
So, I hold the higher & the lower
and it feels like I'm the middle.
It's uncomfortable.
BUT, if I can persist with patience
& a determination,
there is a breakthrough.
It's as if I'm percolating inside and holding it,
trusting in this process
that I don't fully understand.
So mysterious.
Words cannot do justice to this wonder.

Dare To Declare...

Emily Olson

Dare to declare who you are.
It is not far from the shores of silence
to the boundaries of speech.
The path is not long,
but the way is deep.
You must not only walk there,
you must be prepared to leap.

I Have Always Been Fond...

I have always been fond of the saying
“Do not let religion
be an obstacle to the religious experience.”
It seems that religion
is more for the machine,
and religious experiences are for the soul
and its relationship with God and the angels
from these experiences
the love of God pours out towards others.

I Was Observing My Ides...

Christine Soliman

 I was observing my ides,
those that don't want to do the work,
those that make my inner world
feel like a solid balloon that can't be pierced.
And I thought,
I have to acknowledge and transform it.
It reminds me of those kids
who are troublemakers in school,
who don't want to follow instructions
and wants to do as it pleases.
How much I have loved those children.
How much I have worked with them
and waited for their transformation.
However, I had to acknowledge them as different
and wish with them
on a more Loving way without judgement,
lovingly teaching them boundaries.
So it must be with the parts of me
that need to shepherd more,
an inner and complete transformation.

What Is It...

Marc Chagall - Lovers in the Moonlight

What is it we have to let go of?
Could be a question each asks for themselves.
One person's friction is 'just another day at the office'
for someone who may be experiencing real suffering.
For that person exists the opportunity
of transformation of the suffering.
We all have our identifications
but when we are in state of presence
with the inner world,
we see the laws of the universe operating,
we see things are happening
in their automatic cause and effect ways.
But real suffering is special.
The transformation of real suffering
is one of the fastest ways
to feel real and unconditional love,
to connect to the higher.
One way we can let go of friction and pain
and hold on to Love
is by accepting the play of the lower centres
and going higher with Love.

The Art Of "Noticing"...

That art of “noticing”
has been resonating in my mind and heart.
As I listened to the Bach,
I could feel the vibrations throughout my body,
those waves of sound,
the chorus of beautiful souls singing,
Bach’s ability to express grace in sound.
And I began to look around me,
seeing the tableaux in our home
which became more vibrant,
more resonant.
And then I looked at our chihuahua, Rudy,
standing in the kitchen,
and suddenly I felt him so strongly,
the beauty of this tiny being,
and my eyes welled up with tears,
my heart soaring in gratitude.
I realize we are all part of that chorus of souls,
of angels-in-the-making
singing our individual parts of the great music of life,
if only we could see that always.

We Need To Find God...

We need to find God,
and he cannot be found
in noise and restlessness.
God is the friend of silence.
See how nature -
trees, flowers, grass grows in silence;
see the stars, the moon and the sun,
how they move in silence..
We need silence to be able to touch souls.

I See Jesus Walking...

 Ivan Aivazovsky

I see Jesus walking on top of the waters.
His feet just touching the surface
but not going into the water.
As when we can separate and "see" our I'd,
our sufferings, yet not becoming them.
It's a beautiful image.
The waters may be roaring underneath,
yet we can stay above it.

The Beauty Of Certain Music...

The beauty of certain music,
all the notes being played in harmony
and sometimes disharmony
making the melody of song.
Our Song is to be here
with every note that is being played.

The Gift...

Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn

The gift of working together in harmony,
seeing that we are all the same,
we all struggle, daily,
moment by moment sometimes -
the urgency to know when that moment is,
how I can become aware of the vibrations
of the higher calling to me,
asking me to transcend.
Let go.
Then when I do,
it is pure joy, joy above emotion -
Jesus on the sea.

Feeling that I AM in nature and nature is in me,

no separation from creation.

What a beautiful experience that is.

And one by one

to know that we all exist in that space,

taking all the souls that participate

up into the mist of the crashing waves,

to begin again and again.

Don't Only Practice...

Don't only practice your art,
but force your way into its secrets;
art deserves that,
for it and knowledge
can raise man to the Divine.

We Must Attempt...

Elani Van der Merwe

We must attempt to form habits
that correspond to our aim to awaken
and abandon those that add to our sleep.
Each of us
has sufficient knowledge to awaken
and yet we need to be reminded of what we know.
Because we easily forget our aims,
we need to arrange our life
in such a way
that it is conducive to self- remembering.
Familiarizing ourselves
with the beauty in our surroundings
requires effort
and indicates the value we place in ourselves.
We do not have much time left
to accomplish our aims,
and we cannot afford
to squander it on self-deceit.

I Think It Was Epictetus...

I think it was Epictetus
who said we can "never step in the stream
in the same place twice."
And so, we are always beginning again,
gathering new inspiration
(breath) from life and our Work.
A brilliant reminder to keep it fresh,
be open to the new vista,
to appearances of the miraculous.

In These Last Weeks...

 In these last weeks
I have been focusing on the question of,
"Level of Being".
What exactly does it mean for me
and my work and my work in the school
and with other students?
When I find myself a little stuck
or wondering "what is next?",
it is often better for me to stay in the moment
(of course, beginning again
and digesting a few things
or trying to see what has brought me to this point).

A While Back...

A while back
I was in great distress.
I lit a candle and kneeled in front of Jesus,
looking into his eyes.
Something happened.
I was soothed.
The pain was still in me,
but I could handle it, bear it.
I think about that often.
It's a miracle of sorts, isn't it?
I want to be open to that portal.

The Heart Of Mary...

The heart of Mary -
 Jesus the soul.
Jesus, who shows us how to connect
 to the unfathomable one.
We use the word "energy" a lot.
I do - to describe
many things and ideas that are invisible.
Jesus as the great connector to the world of God,
a world without end.
Endless and undivided.
The Love that connects beloved and lover
is the most real way that can possibly understand
and enter into His World.
As students and seekers
life teaches us how to love.
And if I can't love,
(then) how to accept
and if I can't accept,
how to see.
~J
