Roots and Wings
Gustave Moreau
The Cardinal Virtues build root foundations – Wisdom, Temperance, Courage, and Justice. Roots are grounding, but also provide legs that allow for movement, stability and strength. The wings are the Virtues of Charity, Hope and Faith. These are the gifts given to us in the form of grace and higher states. A balance is important. In a beautiful state, one feels lightness and buoyancy. Having strong wings allows us to fly, but it is important to have the legs to not only be able to land, but also to take off.
