I read in scientific detail about the
radical transformation
a caterpillar undergoes to become a butterfly.
I'd never realized the caterpillar
actually digests itself!
It completely dissolves.
"Imaginal
discs" that were dormant in the caterpillar
are the only thing that remain
and from those imaginal discs,
a new being is formed.
That being is completely different
from the caterpillar,
only it can fly! It has wings! It has the memory of being
a caterpillar,
but in its new life is experiencing the world in a very
different way….
We too are the caterpillar.
With our machines, our features, our
identifications.
But as we soften, these mechanical aspects of ourselves
dissolve.
Sometimes parts of us actually disintegrate and die,
but the
"imaginal discs" --
those moments when we've been in our Soul,
the
real-Is we've experienced, the beautiful impressions,
the higher states...
those
give birth to something new.
A more actualized Being.
As we dissolve more of our mechanics
and grow more of our inner world,
we too become butterflies.
