We are not condemned
to go out empty-handed at death
to meet the great unknown.
We can begin to prepare for the experience now.
Death's greatest advantage over us
is that we do not know where he awaits us.
We can take away some of his advantage
by awaiting him everywhere.
Practicing dying frees us from the slavery of this life.
You will live to watch your last thought glide away.
At the moment of death
the mind and all its delusions die,
and in that void arrives the boundless nature of the soul
and its eternal perspective.
Death does not mean annihilation and loss.
Death is a mirror
in which the whole experience of life is reflected.
As the sound of the crash of each wave signals its death
listen to souls being released home as the wave returns to the sea.
The sound of impermanence.
Like death's pulse and heartbeat.
We are terrified of letting go, terrified of living,
since learning to live is learning to let go.
Let go. Let go. Let go or you will hurt.
Do not grasp at the ungraspable.
Let go, you will not fall.
