Sleeping Beauty...

Roland Risse

Sleeping Beauty,

where the character goes to sleep

for many years and is awakened by a prince

(a teacher or school).

In reality, there are many who remain asleep

for most of their lives.

Sometimes, when they are in great danger,

for example,

soldiers often remember their time in battle

as the time they most cherish in their lives.

They aren’t aware that the reason for this

is that the ever-present threat of death

caused them to be in the moment, awake.

Or others have a wonderful memory of the time

when they were in love,

and life became beautiful again

because they were awake.

There are many who remain asleep,

they have a soul,

and it will have brief moments in its life,

but for much of it,

the soul will be asleep and there will be no memory.

So, they do have a soul, it just has gone to sleep.
