Butterfly
by Dosso Dossi
The soul of a grub is not at the level of a butterfly and so it must lose its soul to find it again. By remaining a grub it saves its soul as a grub but loses its soul in another sense - that is, it loses the opportunity of transformation, and, by clinging to itself as it is, misses all that belongs to what it can become.
