Both Outer and Inner...
Because we are both, outer and inner, cellular and molecular, human beings live multidimensional lives. At this moment we live in, we are in two places at once.
One
is the outer, the cellular, the visible, sensual world, where
everything happens, where our body is subject to all the forces of
nature “out there.” The rain wets our skin and the sun burns it; we will
freeze to death in winter without shelter; and the assault of germs and
viruses makes our cells sick.
But
we also occupy the inner, the molecular world, where all these things
change. If we get into the bathtub, our inner world doesn’t get wet. The
limitations of physical life count for much less in the inner world,
perhaps needing to separate from a few more ‘self-pity Is’, and often
count for nothing.
The cold of winter doesn’t freeze your memories; the heat of a July night doesn’t make us sweat in our dreams.
And our Work is to divide attention between the two worlds and be present.
To both worlds. And in both worlds. But not of them.
Profound as usual! And beautifully written!
