I noticed a love or a charity towards myself which was refreshing, in lieu of self pity or other mechanical manifestations. This joy and acceptance of self was found in seeing and feeling happiness in others and attributing that thanks to God, to my soul being present so God could be mirrored in it. It really is a constant battle.

Something "Other"

A machine cannot remember itself, at best it can have a connection to the outside world through the lower centers and an instinctive awareness of its surroundings. The act of self remembering is when something "Other" than the machine kicks in or connects, and how can that happen?
I put it to you that when you are not present and suddenly that familiar connection occurs, that it is something outside the machine that "arrives". At this point you can make a right effort and try to prevail and sustain the state for a little while longer.

It was the build-up of impressions through self remembering. At a certain point they are 'taken in' to the soul. Its as though something - 'the soul' reaches and 'pulls' them in.
The only other impressions that pierce the soul are usually ones of great intensity that bridge the intervals. Unfortunately in our society most of these seem to be unpleasant experiences and so without self remembering a person can end up with a lot more bad memories. After all, how often do you fall in Love - an intense experience that can reach the soul.
