In My Life...

Alex Levin

In my life,
I have experienced buffers
being suddenly lifted as if by grace.
And yes, it was clear that they lifted
because I was ready to see more clearly.
And it gave me such a sense of freedom,
to finally recognize things in myself without judgement.
Self-remembering gives us hope
of observing with better scale,
as the i's disappear in that state,
as well as judgements which may render us blind.
One thing I have been noticing lately
is that when my moving center takes over,
and I go too fast,
or get too busy,
there is something I need to look at.
I have been trying to pause,
take a moment,
and survey the situation
to find the illusive cause,
the thing I cannot see which I am buffering,
and which my moving center
has conspired to keep far from view.

When Thinking About Buffers...

When thinking about buffers,
these images immediately came to mind.
This is a phenomenon in some forests
where trees grow in such a way
that they don’t touch each other.
Scientist aren’t 100% sure why this happen,
but the most common theory is
that the trees can sense the other trees,
so they start growing in a different direction.
They do this
to maximize their potential sun gathering abilities.
That space between the trees
Is exactly what a buffer is.
They are a space between reality and our machine
that keeps us from seeing
what our machine is ACTUALLY doing.
On the most basic level,
the whole point of a buffer IS to keep us asleep.
I remember years ago
Pete talking about the importance of buffers,
from the standpoint of,
(and I’m paraphrasing)
if we saw everything our machine does all at once,
we would go insane.

The Purpose Of Life...

Ravinder Nath Babbar

The purpose of life
is not to be happy.
It is to be useful,
to be honorable,
to be compassionate,
to have it make some difference
that you have lived and lived well.

We Must Be Patient ...

We must be patient
as these understandings grow in us,
as pushing too fast
can cause so many dangerous
and perhaps imaginary detours.
And yet, all these reminders
help keep us on course,
as time in this dimension,
in this life, is so precious.
An important paradox,
I think,
to be kept in our minds and hearts.

When I Get A Moment...

Ford Madox Brown

When I get a moment (glimpse) out of “sleep” -
observing all the laws I am under -
this feeds my desire to work,
as I realize in this moment
I have a choice to be or not to be.
As this student eloquently says,
we must build our own heaven.
No one can do another’s work for them.
When we meet online, face to face,
or read an e-mail from another student or Mervyn,
it is our reminder we are each other’s reminder,
and this place I am in right now
feeds my desire to work
because I must.

Talking Of The Seasons ...

Alphonse Mucha

Talking of the seasons
reminds me of Essence
and how the more of personality we shed
the more sensitive Essence becomes
to changes and atmospheres in our environment.
Some people look forward
to the autumn and winter seasons
and others prefer the sunnier warmer times.
It’s an opportunity
to sit with presence and observe essence,
see how it reacts
how it finds hydrogens.

And Men Go About ...

 And men go about
to wonder at the heights of the mountains,
and the mighty waves of the sea,
and the wide sweep of rivers,
and the circuit of the ocean,
and the revolution of the stars,
but themselves they consider not.”
~Petrarch
