Courage





Courage...

Courage is a word we have discussed so often in the School, and my verifications of it so far have been immense. In the face of fear, courage is what is required, otherwise fear can be all consuming and the interval will extend. But when I have faced that fear, and found the courage that is needed, I have also been given everything I need, all that I require, and with that, my courage has grown again.

Verify...


Verify...

It is important to experiment and 
find one's own levels of work.
We can only move on in our evolution by verifications; 
On these we must stand.
Verify.....
Don't be afraid.  
Have faith in what you have verified 
and move forward.
After a few months one should not be 
bogged down with questions like...
Is this the right way?
If you do not know by now...
perhaps one needs to leave 
and question everything again.
The Gods will not continuously allow us 
to question willy-nilly after a certain point.

Understanding...







Understanding... 

 If you have a good horse but you are not a good rider, what then? Or maybe you are a great rider but the horse has not been properly trained. When a good horse is well trained he can draw out the best in the rider, and vice verse.


That is how I understand the delicate balance 
of Knowledge and Being; 
Together dancing harmoniously 
towards a common Good….



“The power of knowledge is toxic if it is isolated and lacks good soil to receive it”



“To follow the way of knowledge for knowledge itself, 
is simply not being able to understand the meaning of life, 
or the meaning of oneself, 
nor the meaning of the Universe”



Understanding comes….
Heart and Mind, 
or Mind and Heart, 
in delicate dance serving 
the Divine….

Mysticism



Mysticism...

For those of us wishing to embrace the path of mysticism, the first step is to stop trying to use the intellect and simply ’Be’.  The intellect is simply too limiting. But here is the secret, while we cannot reach God by thought alone , we are told that we can reach him through Love. And as Mervyn taught us, love is a state of consciousness and that it is the same state as being present.

On Art


On Art...

Visual art, unlike mechanical progress, must be along the lines of self consciousness, self-expression and the ability to 'see'. The more we know and understand ourselves, the more we examine, collate and observe our lives and art; the more accurately we can convey it to others. It is the business of art to visually bring to full flowering and consciousness what has been fermenting within us through our work and ultimately to allow that which we are creating a voice or stage for expression.

Gems



Gems...

When an Artist creates a painting it is immediatly catapulted into
time. It may lay in an old attic for generations, and one day it may surface
again and be greatly valued. Imagine an indistructable impression, and
now imagine the expanse of eternity.

The Soul keeps these gems, just like beads but they remain scattered
on the dungeon floor; Unconnected.  One day we find the Work and it
becomes a string that begins to  thread these moments or impressions
together.

Like Buddha's necklace each impression becomes a moment in time for
the Soul  and its time or existence is measured by the number of beads.
The machine or even various machines over many life times create the
space  between each bead.

The Way of the Sly Man


The Way of the Sly Man...

Student:
I am having to make different efforts now to trick my machine so I
can stay present.

Mervyn Brady:
Yes, in the beginning a little effort will bring a little
result, so we need bigger efforts to make bigger result. And of
course the machine's (body/mind) defenses get stronger. 
This is why the Work is often referred to as the way of
 "the Sly Man."

There is a part of us that always wishes for the friction or pain
of life to go away. This part of us obviously has not verified that
suffering and friction are a part of the triad of awakening. To
wish our confusion and friction, which after all is the stuff of
evolution, to go away would be akin to asking the process of
evolution to stop.  

We are not here to create professors, to make cool machines, to
become super men. We are here to develop our Souls. Nothing more,
which is bigger than everything.

As I Lay in the Garden...


As I Lay in the Garden...


As I lay in the garden of the retreat,
every one of your faces were flowers,
 And our Souls were the grass 
 and the soil and the rain that nurture life,
And the sun was the Spirit that 
 fueled the fires in the centers of our hearts.
And in one moment while walking alone in the Guest House, 
gratitude welled up inside of me;
Gratitude for the freedom from identification and imagination
which act as shields over my Heart.
Because with them, I can not Be with you or Love you
the way I was able to Love you,
nor can I receive the Love you are 
 willing to reflect back to me.
Our retreat was like a garden
where I was married to our Souls...
not to any one thing, or face, or idea
but to the Invisible that to us was Visible.
What a Blessing to have a Heart that can remain open to Love,
A Heart that accepts what is offered
with a Grace
that can only be given to us by God.
 
Thank you for laying down in the garden with me 
where our sole occupation was
 Love.....

Something Else



Something Else is Needed...

I have caught sight of truths that my mind in it's frailties cannot grasp, but which induce my inner world "To Soar." It was in these "Soarings" that I saw that all meditation, contemplation even Self Remembering are none other than the development of Attention and the ability to fix and direct the mind. Something else must come into the equation.  Alas, something else other than the mere Man is required. Divine intervention or Supernatural grace is what is required in addition to Man's paltry efforts.

Buffers



Buffers...


 Buffers are exactly what you might think them to be. They are 
what serve to both protect and deflect. On a automobile, they 
would be the fender, or air bags. Clothing are also buffers. When
 it is cold, we wear a jacket to protect us from the cold.

In relation to our Work, buffers can block us from seeing our 
mechanics by holding onto the imaginary picture our False Personality 
has. The different Centers have ways in which to buffer higher 
ideas and energy. The Moving Center will move..adjusting in the seat, 
or leaving the room. The emotional center will begin to cry or laugh, 
while the instinctive center will get tired, or create an itch. The 
Intellectual Center will buffer by creating unnecessary questions. 
I suppose that there are many examples of Buffers that can 
be observed.

We have many Buffers, which over time collecting being & 
understanding through Self Remembering, verifications, and receiving 
shocks are removed. However, if they were all removed at once, the 
shock of this conscience might be too much! C Influence will give us 
what we need, when we need it.

To Have Found the Road... 

Often a Man's excitement at having "Found" the road leads others to think at that point that he is "Enlightened." He has found a road that many are seeking and this is indeed great and wonderful. But it is only the discovery of "Where" to begin, not the Journey. And after finding the Road, it is then that he needs experienced guides. Finding the Road is only the beginning of work. Because this Road he has discovered is indeed laced with terrors and difficulties the ordinary mind could never anticipate or grasp. How fortunate us "Few" who have "Begun", and who can still survive and exist in the face of the Minds most delicate and refined misconceptions.

To Be Done Unto...



"One cannot do, but it can be done by three."
~Rodney Collin

I have been pondering this sentence for a few days and its importance seems to grow and connect to so much. One is mechanical and struggling, resisting - wanting things to be other than they are and often times frustrated with an inability to do other than be swept along. It is good to see this I think in our work as it is a very strong force to remember to be present. When we are present 'it can be done by three' and often times, when acceptance returns to us, life becomes sweeter and more joyous.
