Will and Self-Will

Will and Self-Will

Life normally thinks about willpower and judges a person on their will and
ability to do.  This of course is an illusion. We always think everybody else
is doing and we are stuck in the mud.  The machine/mind has a will and so has the
inner world, and they are different and opposed.  For a student, it is very
important to protect the fragile inner will.

The story of Cinderella is the story of the conflict of these two wills.  The
ugly step sisters (Emotional and Instinctive Centers) give impossible tasks
to Cinderella and criticize everything she does. Even when she does carry out
the task they just make her do it again.

One of the reasons I do not give "Gurdjieff like" tasks to people is to
protect their inner will.  False personality and a whole array of features
ask for tasks.  Machines like to show off how good or bad they are.  All I
ask is from students is to try and remember themselves just a little more and
longer when they "Find" themselves present.  Giving tasks which are beyond
ones being, only encourages the ugly sisters and strengthens the enemy.  We
have to be very careful not to "Defeat" the inner will.

As our Friend Buddha said ...
"You have nothing to achieve.
 Just open your
eyes."
